7.1
Meet professional ethics and responsibilities
Understand and apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession.
The Protective Practices for staff in their interactions with children or children young people provides clear advice to adults for the establishment of positive, caring and respectful relationships with children and young people in education and care settings. This includes conduct for the teaching profession, such as:
1. Appropriate physical contact
2. Showing care through encouragement or congratulations
3. Upholding duty of care in relation to personal conduct and intervening in inappropriate conduct.
4. Managing and Maintaining professional and role boundaries.
It is important that teachers remain up to date with legislation and guidelines relating to the safety and well-being of students. In addition teachers must maintain their Responding to abuse and Neglect (RAN) training and complete Working with children checks.
These guidelines are for staff working or volunteering in education and care settings and safeguard the emotional and physical wellbeing of children and young people by promoting in adults an enhanced understanding of appropriate relationship boundaries.
I have read the below document to enhance my knowledge and understanding:

Comply with legislative, administrative and organisational requirements
Understand the relevant legislative, administrative and organisational policies and processes required for teachers according to school stage.
When I commenced my role as a School Support Officer I was provided with workplace policies and practices for teaching at the secondary school.
Below is a copy of a document I was given for teaching for successful writing, This was an agreement that between all staff at the site to develop and support students writing skills. This demonstrates my understanding of what is required from teaching staff, support staff and the wider school community at an organisational level. This documentation is reflective of current legislation and existing school policies relating to Literacy and Numeracy.

Engage with the parents/carers
Understand strategies for working effectively, sensitively and confidentially with parents/carers.
Whilst I would still like to further this understanding,I was able to demonstrate the manner In which I approach engaging with parents/carers in one of my placements. The artefact is an excerpt from my final report.

Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities
Understand the role of external professionals and community representatives in broadening teachers’ professional knowledge and practice
(As demonstrated in Standard 6.2)
As a drama,dance and English teacher I continually participate in professional learning to improve my teaching practice.
Below is a copy of my attendance for the Drama SA Conference Shifting Spaces. As I will be teaching Drama in my upcoming placement I decided that I would attend the conference to improve my knowledge and understanding in Drama. This demonstrates my willingness to engage with professional teaching networks and the broader community to further develop my teaching practice.
